Principal's Message

Dear UNSB stakeholders/partners,

As always, thank you for your incredible support towards nursing education at Uganda Nursing School Bwindi (UNSB) – Uganda Christian University affiliate.

The impact of COVID-19 has been felt at every level across our school and, indeed, our world. Life as we knew it has taken on a new aspect. What was once certain and comfortable, has become unpredictable and strange. As we continue to negotiate our way through the disruptions and restrictions associated with COVID-19, we need to celebrate our coming together at Uganda Nursing School Bwindi (UNSB) to support and strengthen not only our students but also one another throughout the pandemic.

Implications of COVID-19 have seen us move rapidly into a new era. In this new era, each tutor at UNSB has demonstrated true professionalism as they face the enormous task of adapting to teaching and learning in a world where educational norms as we know them are changing. At campus, we adhere to new levels of hygiene and cleanliness.

However, we continue to face the financial implications posed by COVID-19, especially in regard to financial challenges faced by our students. Many have experienced hardship as the result of COVID-19 and any support towards their education is always welcome.

Despite these challenges, our students have continued to excel in their academics, with an overall pass rate of 100% in the December 2020 national exams and 98% pass rate in the March 2021 national exams.

Medical Training institutions have now opened in a staggered manner. The students have been divided into two (2) cohorts. This means at any one time; we will have a cohort doing home schooling. What does this mean for us? This means that we must maintain access to learning and ensure students retain knowledge and skills while at home through temporary remote, alternative or distance learning programmes.

Our immediate challenge is to educate students when at home especially internet costs for both students and staff doing Open Distance Electronic Learning (ODEL). We continue to appreciate any support towards building a strong internet capacity to support our Open Distance Electronic Learning program

UNSB fraternity wishes you all the best and please remember to stay happy, healthy and optimistic.
